RomeMUN 2020 is looking for STAFF: Applications for Chairs NOW OPEN

We are delighted to inform you that the Secretariat of Rome Model United Nations 2020 (RomeMUN 2020, the Conference), comprised of the Secretary-General (SG), Hamza Naeem, and three Under-Secretary-Generals (USGs), including Vahid Aliyev for Academics, Solomon Kountouris for Chairing, and Bianca Cunha for External Relations, is now accepting applications for the Officials’ positions.

 

About the RomeMUN Conference:

The Conference is scheduled to take place in the eternal city of Rome from March 7th – 10th, 2020. Like every year, we are looking for dedicated young leaders to help us drive the Conference towards its objective of a well-managed and a successful simulation of the UN. The Officials will be working under the umbrella of the Secretariat of RomeMUN along with the SG and three USGs. Each of the Officials will be working on the tasks assigned in the capacity of their roles as well as some common promotional objectives of the Conference.

 

About the Organisation:

The Giovani nel Mondo (GnM) Association is an independent, non-profit, non-denominational, and apolitical organisation. The Association pursues educational and cultural, both international and national, goals; its primary focus is youth and young adults, ages between eighteen and thirty years old, to assist and accompany them on their education path and their professional, academic, and socio-cultural growth. In particular, for the 2019/2020 year, Giovani nel Mondo promotes: research in the field of training and education, at both the national and international level; events, study abroad, cultural exchanges, twinning with young Italian and foreign students; events suited to facilitate the participation and involvement of the youth in the activities of international and national, private and public, institutions which operate in related sectors. GnM created the International Careers Festival composed of four main projects from which participants can choose the one most suited to their academic background, professional aspirations, or general interest. These projects are:

  • Rome Press Game,
  • Rome Business Game,
  • RomeMUN,
  • and International Careers course.

About the role, duties and benefits:

The term ‘Official’ refers to:

  • Presidents,
  • Vice-Presidents,
  • Chairpersons,
  • and Vice-Chairpersons

selected by the Secretariat and employed by RomeMUN. Collectively, the Officials are known as the Dais. As the Dais you will be responsible for the smooth running of the committee. You will need a thorough working knowledge of the procedural rules (Rules of Procedure (RoP)) of RomeMUN and will have confidence when it comes to making decisions according to the RoP if challenged by delegates. In addition, you will be in charge of submitting a study guide (SG). Last but not least, you will have experience working in multicultural environments, which means people you will be working with may have values, beliefs and certain conventions that may differ significantly from those you have.

 

The main duties of the Officials are the following:

- Representing RomeMUN before and during the event in a professional manner, and promoting the Conference and contacting MUN clubs and other MUNs to develop partnerships and encourage delegates/delegations to apply;

- Be in charge, alongside with your respective chair/co-chair, of the coordination and effective work of the committees during the preparation phase as well as the Conference stage;

- Drafting the Study Guides (SG) about the committees and their topics, and researching the topics in-depth;

- Participating in three online training sessions (webinars) in February to get in touch with and solve any issues arising from delegates prior to the start of the Conference;

- Respecting the deadlines set by the Secretariat in relation to submitting the SGs as well as other assigned tasks;

- Complying fully with the RomeMUN’s Rules of Procedure;

- Managing committees comprised of delegates coming from diverse cultural, religious, educational and professional backgrounds. Please note we have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment of any kind, which includes, but is not limited to: on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, disability, physical appearance, age, national origin, sexual orientation, or any other basis;

- Chairing committee sessions during the Conference in Rome (7th – 10th March 2020).

Please note that the above list of duties is not exclusive or exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the role.

 

As the Dais you will be entitled to the following benefits:

- Coverage of the conference fee, including conference materials;

- Free accommodation from 7 to 10 March 2020 in one of the official hotels of RomeMUN 2020, in a double room with continental breakfast;

- Lunches during the conference days;

- Shuttle to and from the conference venue;

- Participation in all the social events;

- Partial refund of the round-trip flight or train tickets for attending the conference, depending on the region you are travelling from.

 

Duty station: Rome, Italy, for the duration of the RomeMUN conference (7th-10th March 2020)

 

Open to: All those who are confident they will be able to fulfill the tasks mentioned in the call
