Call for 3 Under Secretary for the RomeMUN 2020

We are delighted to inform you that the Secretariat of Rome Model United Nations 2020 is now accepting applications for the following positions,

1)          Under Secretary General for Academics,

2)          Under Secretary General for Chairing,

3)          Under Secretary General for External Relations.

Rome Model United Nations (RomeMUN) is a simulation of the United Nations committees and specialized agencies. The simulation takes place in March every year at the beautiful city of Rome under the umbrella of Giovani nel Mondo Association (see the passage below for further information of GnM). Join RomeMUN in its 11th edition with the patronage and support of international institutions from across the globe. 
More than 2000 delegates from around the world participate in 7 committees, along with renowned guests, and an innovative approach to foster greater involvement and debate from the youth on current international issues is what will make this RomeMUN one to remember.

Organization: The Giovani nel Mondo Association is an independent, non-profit, non-denominational, and apolitical organization. The Association pursues educational and cultural, both international and national, goals; its primary focus is youth and young adults, ages between eighteen and thirty years old, to assist and accompany them on their education path and their professional, academic, and socio-cultural growth. In particular, for the 2019/2020 year, Giovani nel Mondo promotes: research in the field of training and education, at both the national and international level; events, study abroad, cultural exchanges, twinning with young Italian and foreign students; events suited to facilitate the participation and involvement of the youth in the activities of international and national, private and public, institutions which operate in related sectors. GNM created the International Careers Festival. The Festival is composed of four main projects from which participants can choose the one most suited to their academic background, professional aspirations or general interest. The projects are: Rome Press Game, Rome Business Game, RomeMUN and International Careers course.

The conference is scheduled to take place in Rome from March 7th-10th, 2020. Like every year, we are looking for dedicated young leaders to help us drive the secretariat towards its objective of a well managed and a successful simulation of the UN. The Under Secretary Generals (USGs) will be working under the umbrella of the Secretariat of Rome Model United Nations along with the Secretary General. Every USG will be working on the tasks assigned in the capacity of their roles as well as some common promotional objectives of the conference.

During the duration of the conference, the accommodation of the USGs will be covered by Rome MUN and they will receive partial refunds of their travel expenses to Rome.

Job description:

Common objectives of the Secretariat:

  • During the summer collecting curriculums and selecting the group of officials
  • From September they will coordinate the group following the guidelines, assign tasks and various roles, follow and supervise their work as they inspire their group to go an extra mile,  they need to be able to clearly and succinctly explain to the group everything from goals to specific tasks,
  • By January they will have to make sure that chairs and directors are present at different online training sessions (webinars),
  • In March they will follow the Festival and make sure that the work carried out in line with the plan and objectives.

 

  • Secretary General for Academics:
  • Reports to the Secretary General,
  • Assists Secretary General in the selection process of Chairs and other secretariat tasks before and throughout the conference (maybe required to work after the conference for a few days),
  • Carries out the important tasks to formulate and finalizes the Study Guides, Rules of Procedures and fulfills other academic formalities,
  • Manages all online documents during and prior to the conference,
  • Supports and assists committees in all academic related concerns during the conference,
  • Works on the common objectives of the secretariat along with the other USGs,

 

  • Secretary General for Chairing:
  • Reports to the Secretary General,
  • Assists Secretary General in the selection process of Chairs and other secretariat tasks before and throughout the conference (maybe required to work after the conference for a few days),
  • Carries out the important tasks to related to sharing of information and announcements for Chairs,
  • Remains in-touch with the Chairs from the time of their selection till the end of the conference,
  • Manages the webinars with the chairs prior to the conference,
  • Resolves issues of delegates along with the Chairs,
  • Supports and assists committees in all time management related concerns (lunch/coffee breaks, Committee rooms etc.) during the conference,
  • Works on the common objectives of the secretariat along with the other USGs,

 

  • Secretary General for External Relations:
  • Reports to the Secretary General,
  • Assists Secretary General in the selection process of Chairs and other secretariat tasks before and throughout the conference (maybe required to work after the conference for a few days),
  • Arranges partnerships for the conference,
  • Remains as the first contact person with the Ambassadors and other guest speakers,
  • Communicate with all external bodies in regard to exchange of delegates and chairs etc.,
  • Supports and assists committees with their guest speaker related concerns during the conference,
  • Works on the common objectives of the secretariat along with the other USGs,

 

Requirements:

  • Professional English language skills,
  • Availability of at least 6 hours a week from  June 2019 to 10th March 2020
  • Several experiences as delegate in Model United Nation conferences
  • Several experiences as chair or director in various Model United Nations conferences
  • Preferably strong leadership skills

Additional requirements:

  • Experience of being a member of Secretariat in other MUN
  • Previous experience as chair or director or delegate for RomeMUN
  • Virtual availability when asked by the Secretary General,

Wage/fees: Undersecretaries are guaranteed accommodation and meals during the conference and partial coverage of their travel expenses to Rome and from Rome
